The Origins of Cat & Dog Acupuncture

Chances are, you’ve heard of acupuncture before. It is the practice of inserting very fine needles in certain acupuncture points of the body. This treatment originated in ancient China thousands of years ago as a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are over one hundred acupuncture points distributed over fourteen main channels, or meridians, throughout your pet’s body. Research shows that these points contain an accumulation of nerve endings, arterioles, and lymphatic vessels—in other words, they are prime areas for injury, abnormalities, and disease.

How Cat & Dog Acupuncture Works

Dr. Stephens uses a combination of dry needles, electro-stimulation, and aqua-puncture to stimulate the affected acupuncture points. All of these methods work to provide pain relief, stimulate the nervous system, and regulate the immune system. We use veterinary acupuncture both in conjunction with traditional western medicine and as an alternative approach.

Acupuncture can help in the treatment of many conditions including, but not limited to:

  • Arthritis
  • Intervertebral disc disease
  • Endocrine diseases
  • Metabolic diseases
  • And more
